Resolving Customer Complaints in a Snap:
Part to Part Comparisons of Spork Snap Closure
The Industry: Consumer Goods
The Client Issue:
Several complaints were received by our client concerning the performance of their sporks.
In an effort to be more portable and space saving, the utensil was designed to fold in half when not in use. This required a snap closure for locking the handle into the full length position. Some of our client’s customers received sporks that were unable to stay in the fully extended position, which made them difficult to use.
Part to Part Comparisons
The 3DProScan Resolution:
Using Part to Part comparisons, 3D ProScan was able to examine the defective sporks and compare them to sporks from the same batch that were known to function properly. By doing so, it was determined that one or more of the cavities in the new mold may be producing faulty pieces.
A more comprehensive plan was developed to test the quality of product from each of the mold cavities. This required scanning of additional parts, which were then able to be compared to the original functioning and defective parts. In the end, it was determined that only one cavity was faulty and parts from that location were pulled from shipping.
The 3DProScan Difference:
The initial Part to Part Comparison and our engineers’ knowledge of mold making rapidly pointed the client in the direction of the issue. Once our client narrowed down the most viable root cause and developed a sampling plan, through the speed of industrial CT scanning and our engineers, we were able to obtain and process additional data at a rate that achieved results in days as opposed to weeks.
Quality and customer satisfaction are major concerns. Whether the customer is ours or yours, 3D ProScan’s industrial CT scanning technology is a fast and thorough way to get to the bottom of complaints and resolve quality issues. Any low-density piece that fits in a 5”x5” cylinder can be scanned.
